List of Props

Our short film is about skateboarding so it is likely to have very specific props, however it is a naturalistic documentary, meaning we are predicting what we shall use, rather than dictating, with the intention of keeping scenes as organic and authentic as possible. We can predict mise-en-scene by considering common trends amongst the community.

Skateboard

The skateboard is an obvious choice of props in this movie. The parts of a skateboard consist of trucks, bearings, bolts, wheels, grip tape and the deck, all of which can be customised by the skater to suit their idividual skating style.

Clothing

Brands like Palace heavily influence the style of skaters in London. The brand derive from a skating group (likely young people) which shows in their relaxed approach to the business. Their instagram, website, twitter and other forms of contact are extremly casual. Although skateboarding is a proffesional sport, there is no proffesional wear like kits in football or code of dress like in an office.

Helmet and Protection

(Or lack there of) Amature skateboarders are extremely unlikely to wear protective gear such as knee pads or a helmet as it is not seen to be very cool. In newer, professional

skate videos (Like Plan B; True), skaters are seen to fall from tall staircases or ledges, doing stunts which could end very badly but never actually seem to. The irresponsible behaviour that the rolemodels show rubs off on new skaters.

Our props list is short since it's a documentary. Despite this, they are some of the most important objects that will help to convey the skateboarding topic.
